Endowment Fund (Objective: surpass $1,000,000)
What is an endowment fund? According to Merriam-Webster.com an 'endowment' by definition is
a large amount of money that has been given to a school, hospital, etc., and that is used to pay for its creation and continuing support: the act of providing money to create or support a school, organization, etc. Put another way, it is a pool of funds invested from which an institution such as Roslyn School can draw support money from as needed. As of December 2014, Rosyln School Foundation's endowment fund is $17,000CAD.

In comparison, according to Forbes.com
Harvard University's endowment fund as indicated in their 2013 fiscal year-end report, was valued at $32.7 billion. The same Forbes article mentioned McGill University's endowment fund was valued at $1.27 Billion as of March 31, 2014.

Why does Roslyn School need an endowment fund?
Isn't it time we all place more emphasis on the start of a child's academic career? The next time you stop by the school, look at the state of the desks and chairs, bicycle rack, teacher's lounge, any bathroom, and display cases. Although a public school is government funded for the most part, many government levels are running large deficits these days and the term "cut-back" is common place for all publicly funded institutions. Who will ensure needed funding reaches Roslyn School? There is a serious need for additional funding to ensure the survival of a vital community based elementary school such as Roslyn and the Foundation is prepared to work towards that goal.

Roslyn School Foundation benefits to Roslyn School:
  • Programs funded by the Foundation will improve the learning experience and environment for all children attending the school.
  • Increased opportunities for children will help continue Roslyn's reputation as a pre-eminent public school attracting top teachers and administrators.
  • The Foundation has the flexibility to provide resources for innovative or urgently needed programming without waiting for changes in existing government funding formulas because the Foundation's funds are separate from Roslyn School, the English Montreal School Board and the Québec Ministry of Education.

Objectives of the Roslyn School Foundation:
  • To establish an endowment through fundraising that will provide a continuing and sustainable source of support for projects to enrich the learning experience of all Roslyn students.
  • To provide students with additional learning opportunities:
  • To supplement existing school programs in areas such as music, art, science and physical education;
  • To provide new programs that fall outside government funding formulas in areas such as special assistance, enrichment for gifted students, computer sciences, and drama;
  • To provide additional funds for core resources that benefit all students such as the library.
  • To continue Roslyn's role as an innovative school that has been a leader in educational reform and a pioneer in the French immersion program.
  • To strengthen relations with alumni and to provide them with a tangible platform to express their pride in Roslyn.
